Between 1751 and 1760, the Duke of Uzès and Voltaire corresponded with each other, exchanging seven letters.

In works dedicated to Voltaire, five letters written by the author to the Duke of Uzès are preserved, while two remain missing, and no letter from the Duke of Uzès to Voltaire has ever been found. Charles Emmanuel de Crussol, Duke of Uzès, however, was a man of both keen intellect and great foresight. As a precaution, he copied the entire correspondence, consisting of more than 86 handwritten pages, into a book that is still kept in the Duchy's library today. 

The Duke of Uzès's letters shed new light on and provide a better understanding of the responses of Marie-François Arouet, known as Voltaire.
